The Value of Information Concealment

چکیده
We consider a revenue optimizing seller selling a single item to a buyer, on whose private value the seller has a noisy signal. We show that, when the signal is kept private, arbitrarily more revenue could potentially be extracted than if the signal is leaked or revealed. We then show that, if the seller is not allowed to make payments to the buyer, the gap between the two is bounded by a multiplicative factor of 3 when the value distribution conditioning on each signal is regular. We give examples showing that both conditions are necessary for a constant bound to hold. We connect this scenario to multi-bidder single-item auctions where bidders’ values are correlated. Similarly to the setting above, we show that the revenue of a Bayesian incentive compatible, ex post individually rational auction can be arbitrarily larger than that of a dominant strategy incentive compatible auction, whereas the two are no more than a factor of 5 apart if the auctioneer never pays the bidders and if each bidder’s value conditioning on the others’ is drawn according to a regular distribution. The upper bounds in both settings degrade gracefully when the distribution is a mixture of a small number of regular distributions.

An Improved Motion Vector Estimation Approach for Video Error Concealment Based on the Video Scene Analysis
In order to enhance the accuracy of the motion vector (MV) estimation and also reduce the error propagation issue during the estimation, in this paper, a new adaptive error concealment (EC) approach is proposed based on the information extracted from the video scene. In this regard, the motion information of the video scene around the degraded MB is first analyzed to estimate the motion type of...
متن کاملEffects Of Fast Pathway Ablation On The Concealment Zone And Electrophysiological Behavior Of AV-Node During Atrial Fibrillation.
Objectives: Dual pathways have a determinant role in the occurrence of atrio nodal tachyarrhythmia (AVNRT). The aim of present study is to determine the role of slow pathway (SP) in the concealment zone and protective role of AV node during atrial fibrillation (AF). Material &Methods: In 7 isolated nodal rabbit preparation zone of concealment and concealed conduction is quantified by Specif...

Introduction: Addiction is a complex disease characterized by compulsive behaviors, irresistible temptations, drug behaviors, and persistent consumption, even when there are many negative consequences for the individual. Objective: The purpose of this study was to determine the role of self-concealment and alexithymia in predicting resistance to change of drug users. Material and Methods: This ...
متن کاملCombining Space and Time Processing for Shape Error Concealment
Several shape error concealment techniques for objectbased video have already been proposed in the literature. These techniques, however, are either spatial or temporal, in the sense that only information from one of these domains is considered during the concealment process. While spatial error concealment techniques only use spatially adjacent shape information to perform the concealment, tem...
متن کاملتصادفی سازی در مطالعات کارآزمایی بالینی: از تئوری تا عمل
Background & Aim: Randomized clinical trials (RCTs) are studies which are able to provide the most valid evidence to compare various interventions in health research. Biases can affect the quality of research and ultimately make the results of a study invalid. One of the most important biases is selection bias. The best way to reduce selection bias is the use of random allocation. The aim of th...
متن کاملTitle: Examining Self-Concealment Within the Framework of Psychological Inflexibility
Introduction: A pervasive and habitual pattern of deliberately keeping personal information from others has been a central topic in psychotherapy and personality psychology. A construct that reflects this pattern is self-concealment, which is defined as “the predisposition to actively conceal from others personal information that one perceives as distressing or negative.” Two major self-regulat...
